Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic in his essay, "Machines of Loving Grace," writes:
“I suspect AI-accelerated biology will greatly expand what is possible: weight, physical appearance, reproduction and other biological processes will be fully under people’s control."
Continuing he states:
"We’ll refer to these under the heading of biological freedom: the idea that everyone should be empowered to choose what they want to become and live their lives in the way that most appeals to them.”
Other predictions in Amodei's essay include:
“My basic prediction is that AI-enabled biology and medicine will allow us to compress the progress that human biologists would have achieved over the next 50-100 years into 5-10 years. I’ll refer to this as the ‘compressed 21st century:’ the ideas that after powerful AI is developed, we will, in a few years, make all the progress in biology and medicine that we would have made in the whole 21st century.”
“Most mental illness is partially heritable, and genome-wide association studies are starting to gain traction on identifying relevant factors. It will probably be possible to prevent most of these diseases via embryo screening.”
Amodei's essay also mentions that everyday psychological problems—like "quick to anger"— will be treated with new drug interventions, including optogenetics (light stimulation) or magnetic fields.
