Documents were leaked from The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
WPATH is the most influential transgender health organization in the world located in East Dundee, Illinois, America.
The leaked documents revealed that the process of informed consent was highly questionable when treating minors.
In one document a practitioner says that explaining the impact of gender-affirming medicine on fertility to a 14-year-old is like talking to a blank wall.
England's public healthcare system, National Health Service (NHS), announced it would ban gender-affirming care for children.
A month later, the Cass Review was released: a four-year-independent report commissioned by the NHS and led by UK pediatrician, Dr. Hilary Cass, to assess the benefits of transgender medicine on children.
The report found "no evidence that puberty blockers improve gender dysphoria and stated that puberty blockers may permanently disrupt brain development." [14.49 page 179]
In an interview with The BMJ, Dr. Cass remarked: “I can't think of another area of pediatric care where we give young people potentially irreversible treatments and have no idea what happens to them in adulthood."
Over the course of 2024, more than 20 U.S. states banned or severely limited gender-affirming care and the Supreme Court validated Idaho's ban on treatments for minors. Tennessee ban on gender-affirming care for children is currently being argued in Supreme Court.
In pre-election addresses, President Trump stated:
"On Day One, I will revoke Joe Biden’s cruel policies on so-called gender affirming care. Ridiculous. A process that includes giving kids puberty blockers, mutating their physical appearance, and ultimately performing surgery on minor children. Can you believe this?"
