Genetic aging researcher wants to study supplements

Cheap Longevity

Calico Life Sciences is a renown aging research company owned by Alphabet/Google. Its VP of Aging Research is Cynthia Kenyon, who is regarded as one of the world's foremost authorities on molecular biology and genetic aging and life extension.

During a recorded panel discussion at the Atlantic Festival 2024, Kenyon stated her interest in developing a side project called The World Healthspan Organization that would conduct high-quality large studies to evaluate cheap and easy-to-get supplements such as NAD precursors, taurine, rapamycin, metformin—even aspirin—that have been shown to extend lifespan in mice.

Kenyon explained that since these supplements are not viable for multimillion dollar phase 3 human clinic studies (because there would be no financial return) her proposed organization would be funded by governments and non-profit organizations.

"What are you going to do, compete with Bayer aspirin?" says Kenyon. "There's no business model but some of those things might really work." Adding she states, "If they work on people, everyone could take them, people in the third world. Everyone would be more resilient.”

Note: Currently, there is no regulatory path for anti-aging drugs.
